What’s In Store For You In This Course?

The American Property: Freedom, Liberty & Ownership Course provides a common-sense general understanding of property law as intended under the Constitution and as applied in day-to-day life. This will not only cover all of the major subject areas that would be taught in law school but also add in how those concepts are actually applied in today’s world, whether it’s explaining the mechanics of your first home purchase, how to avoid landlord-tenant disputes or why the homeowner’s association is telling you to trim your hedges. By the end of this course, you will have the legal basis to defend one of the most fundamental American rights: private property ownership.

We’re able to offer these law-school level courses to you at these amazingly low prices precisely because we don’t incur the cost of having them formally accredited, as would be required for a degree-offering program.  If you are interested in an actual Juris Doctor (law degree), it would be necessary for you to attend an accredited law school with its attendant cost and time commitments.

That said—if you are seriously considering law school, taking our American Law Courses first would place you in an extremely advantageous position relative to your fellow students, who will be learning this material for the first time while earning their law school grades, while you will already have mastered it.

What Will You Learn In This Course?

Freedom of the Founding Fathers

In the first week's class we’ll dive right into the principles of the Constitution and Founding Fathers that create the basis for the American Property system.

Something from Nothing

Capture, discovery or creation: How does the basic principles behind these theories set Americans apart from their tea-drinking English counterparts and DIRECTLY lead to the dominance of D.C. over London.

That Darn Fence: Adverse Possession

How can other individual property owners can legally take YOUR property without sale or consent? We’ll discuss practical steps to AVOID losing property through adverse possession.

Uncle Sam’s Cut: Eminent Domain & Takings

Learn how the government takes YOUR private property, both in terms of the underlying political and economic theory as well as the practical reality of “just compensation” for these lands.

Sharing Property

Here we will discuss various ways that property is shared, such as joint tenancy, tenancy in common and tenancy by the entirety. We’ll also dive into concepts such as marital property and timeshares and why you should be particularly wary of the latter.

Selling and Gifting Property

We will review contracts basics, titles, and the different types of deeds you may see as part of a real estate or personal property transaction. We'll also discuss financing property transactions including practical tips that reduce potential issues

Renting Property

We’ll introduce the basic tenants of a landlord – tenant relationship and examine what powers and responsibilities landlords ACTUALLY have and how they can remove deadbeat tenants. On the flip side, you'll learn the duties, rights and remedies for tenants, including the sneaky ways landlords try to shift additional responsibility to tenants.

Affordable Housing: Equity or Insanity?

The term “affordable housing” is one of the most misunderstood and misrepresented concepts – often touted by politicians as a remedy to poverty in theory, in practice it can also lead to corruption, mismanagement and government quotas completely divorced from economic demand or reality.
